Duration

3 years

General Description

The medical specialization in Internal Medicine aims to train and certify health professionals of an excellent level, able to generate knowledge, optimize the use of technologies and support clinical research.

Internal Medicine Specialists will be capable of carrying out actions to promote health, prevent disease, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate patients, from adolescence to old age. They will work towards the common good, with a focus on people and their surroundings, and will be guided by ethical and Christian humanist principals that call for care of the mental and physical integrity of their patients.

Internal Medicine Specialists will be trained to address medical issues in ambulatory and hospital care settings, with varying degrees of complexity. They will use the clinical and/or scientific method and methodological tools from biomedical and social sciences and research to aid in their decision-making, undertaking ongoing self-directed study.

Additionally, Internal Medicine Specialists are trained to carry out basic clinical research and to apply essential concepts for undergraduate teaching. They will be capable of leading healthcare teams, using management tools and working across multiple disciplines to overcome challenges and achieve objectives. They will take into consideration the rational use of existing resources, promoting rapid and high-quality care. They will relate to their patients with empathy and assertiveness, taking their social and cultural surroundings into consideration and providing care that puts the physical and emotional wellbeing of the person first.
