General Description

The Master’s of Social Psychology is a scientific program which aims to train high-level researchers able to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Social Psychology, with a focus on national and regional issues in the public and private sector.

This program brings together teams of researchers in the field of Social Psychology, who work on projects with strong links to the community and carry out teaching activities, in order to provide an integrated learning experience which increases employment opportunities for graduates in the areas of academia, research and projects.

Graduates of the program will be capable of analyzing issues in contemporary psychology from a psycho-social perspective. Candidates will have the knowledge, skills and capacities necessary to define issues for applied research, carry out processes of methodological design (qualitative and quantitative) to address these issues, apply techniques for the collection and analysis of data, prepare and publish research and project reports, plan, develop and evaluate psycho-social projects and participate in the development and analysis of social policy.


The objective of this Master’s Program is to train academics and researchers able to meet the needs of academia and research at Chilean universities, at a level of excellence equivalent to the most advanced centers of development of the discipline. In this way, the program seeks to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of social psychology, focusing on issues of national and regional priority, through the preparation of researchers and the development of research at the local level.

Candidate Profile

Candidates will be professionals of the Social Sciences, with an undergraduate degree (5-year program). Priority will be given to those professionals that have prior knowledge of research methodology or have participated in research projects.

Plan of Studies

The program is made up of two types of courses, divided into two cycles. The first cycle includes the mandatory core courses as well as complementary activities (seminars, intensive courses with visiting professors, conferences, etc.). The second cycle includes electives as well as the thesis seminar, in order to integrate research tools (methodology, experimental design and data analysis) and theoretical concepts from specialized thematic areas of psycho-social research. Once the final thesis proposal has been submitted and approved, students will take part in a final examination in which they will defend their thesis project. They will then have a maximum of 2 years to complete the project and defend it before a committee.


Prerequisites for application to the program are:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent academic or professional qualification in social or health sciences (psychology, sociology, social work, journalism, law, nursing, economics or education).
  • Application form, letter outlining the candidate’s reasons for applying to the program and CV.
  • Candidates may be asked to take part in an individual interview if the academic committee considers it necessary.
  • An understanding of the English language is expected, and should preferably be demonstrated by the candidate.
