The museum aims to teach geology from school-age children up to students of the subject and the public in general. It has a permanent collection of around 2500 pieces on display, as well as more stored in the archive.
Among the most important pieces is a marine crocodile skull from the Jurassic period that is over 120 million years old, as well as the oldest rock in the world, estimated to be 4294 million years old (the earth is 4.5 billion years old) and a collection of marine fossils from the Jurassic era including both vertebrates and invertebrates.
