Coquimbo

Duration

3 years

General Description

This program focuses on the acquisition of the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors necessary to practice psychiatry, through problem-based learning, bibliographical reviews, evidence-based decision making, refresher seminars, clinical and personal psychiatry practice, participation in clinical meetings, presentations at conferences and scientific publications.

Psychiatrists are medical professionals with a solid foundation in clinical psychiatry, who are capable of practicing this specialization in ambulatory, hospital and community care contexts.

In the community, psychiatrists will contribute to multidisciplinary community care teams, with a humane, anthropological and ethical vision. In hospital settings, they will be capable of describing, distinguishing and comparing the fundamental clinical characteristics of nosological psychiatric profiles, as well as describing and determining the neurobiological, psychological and social basis of psychiatric illnesses, integrating factors such as gender and age group, with a particular focus on adults. They will also be able to carry out nosological and differential diagnoses, design plans to monitor clinical profiles and carry out interdisciplinary therapeutic planning and patient rehabilitation. They will understand patients to be individuals, but also take into consideration family and social dimensions.

In an ambulatory care setting, psychiatrists practice their specialization, managing and monitoring mental health problems of adults and their families, in public health clinics and institutions.
