Master’s of Economic Geology

General Description

The Master’s of Economic Geology at the Universidad Católica del Norte aims to instill the principles, concepts and techniques of modern Economic Geology, with an emphasis on the methodological aspects of mining resource exploration.

The program takes place in northern Chile, a region with a great concentration of large-scale mining operations, allowing the professional to gain skills and knowledge in a natural laboratory. Students will also have access to sophisticated infrastructure and a faculty with strong professional and academic experience together with visiting national and international specialists, giving them a solid foundation in the field.


The objective of this program is to train graduates with an advanced knowledge of exploration. Graduates will be capable of creatively modeling mineral deposits in plate convergence zones and generating visualizations of the different stages of a geological exploration project, from formulation, conceptualization and execution to mining development.

Candidate Profile

The program is aimed at geology professionals who are dedicated to mining exploration and exploitation.

Plan of Studies

This program has a duration of two years. Face-to-face classes take place once a month. Core courses will have a duration of 30 hours, spread over 5 days, while elective subjects will have a duration of 24 hours, spread over 4 days.

Applicants to the program should be geologists or geological engineers with an undergraduate degree or professional title in Geology from a university in Chile or abroad, the level and contents of which must be suitable for the purposes of the program.

Applicants should provide the following documentation:

  • Letter of Application addressed to the Program Director
